Class of 2012: Lexa F., Vancouver WA

I photographed Lexa in downtown Vancouver, Washington this fine Labor Day weekend.  I love the hair color… and that necklace, wow!  Lexa is a very talented artist and a lovely lady, and she had several ideas for great places to go for photos.  We intended to go to Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver, but when we arrived we found it was Kumoricon, a new phenomenon for me but one familiar to Lexa.  There were people everywhere in crazy costumes (some more appropriate for a public venue than others, yikes), quite a scene!

We started at this beautiful wall that depicts scenes from WWII.  Lexa told me that she has a love for history and art and wanted to incorporate some of the scenes.  I got a ton of great shots here.

We then hit a few other great hidden spots, including a beautiful ivy-covered wall and an old whitewashed brick alley.  I will definitely shoot seniors in downtown Vancouver again because there were so many beautiful backdrops.

Lexa was easy to photograph and I got so many beautiful shots from this senior session!

Photo Collage Storyboards

Storyboards are a modern way of displaying favorite photos and can include design elements such as lettering, drawings, flourishes, or frames printed right on top of the photo.  They are mounted on styrene and they arrive ready to place on a tabletop easel or in a frame.  I am an experienced artist and designer and can customize designs, colors, and text to your liking.

Today I was testing out some new design elements on this photo of Baby Oona… I love the idea of putting baby’s name in these blocks right on top of the photo and printing it on a storyboard.  I also added a lacy border to this photo:

Here’s one I made of Jonah at 7 months:

You can also keep it simple, creating a collage with rounded corners to add a fresh twist to displaying photo collages… no need to bother with multiple prints and mats in a complicated frame.

Imagine this one sitting on the buffet table at the graduation shindig:

Custom storyboards start at only $40, including the photos, and are printed at my pro lab.

Have you made your baby book yet?

Shortly after my baby was born, I saw this beautiful Nikki McClure “baby’s first year” journal at Powell’s.  It had pages and pages where mom is meant to fill in details of baby’s birth and infancy and add photos and keep a journal of all the new & exciting things baby is doing throughout the first year.  I loved the style of the book and thought about buying it, but I realistically admitted to myself that I was not likely to take time out during those crazy early infant days to fill it out.  I am, however, reliable about taking photos and videos, which I intend to compile and organize as Jonah nears his first birthday.  Here is the front/back cover and one of the inside spreads of the custom book I am making for him:

The end result is a press-printed and bound 12″ square book with lots of adorable photos of my little munchkin for us to keep forever.
