I was happy to be shooting many lifestyle family portrait sessions this winter!  This is such a sweet and different type of portrait session than the outdoor fall family sessions that are so very popular with my clients.

mother and child snugglingWe shot this session on a gorgeous snowy day so the light was bouncing all around the room and I used only window light for this session.  I almost always use some sort of supplemental fill lighting buchild jumping on a bed

This mom has done several sessions with me in the past and is a pro at styling, she had a simple, neutral, fresh backdrop ready for me in one of the bedrooms, perfect for  a little jumping on the bed action!

Even though it was the middle of the day, the sun was low enough and the snow reflective enough that I got a couple of cute shots of these two outside, love it.

Claire’s family prefers a simple & clean portrait session for the newborn portraits, which is perfect for my uncluttered style.  We shot this session in my Pittsburgh photography studio.

Studio portraits always usually look nice in black & white because of the higher contrast & directional lighting.

Laura called me about a Pittsburgh maternity photography session, and said she felt great being pregnant and wanted to capture the energy of the Brookline neighborhood where she lives.  We got the MOST PERFECT WEATHER on this day–around 70, clear, so lovely.  Right now (as I am writing this), it’s 20 degrees and snowing, just a couple weeks later.  Pittsburgh!!!

She sent me some great snapshots of the streets where we ended up shooting, and I said “yaaaaaas!!!”  I love a location that has meaning to my client and has qualities I look for–great lighting, deep space, and interesting details (like these awesome stairs.
