Brittany & Phil Maternity Session

Baby girl is coming soon for Brittany & Phil!  We shot their session at a beautiful South Hills nature park in May of 2016.  We brainstormed some names for the baby… Phillipa, Philhomena, Phyllis… what do you think?

Brittany is only about a month away from her due date now, and she looks gorgeous.  I love most of these portraits in color, but I prefer this one in black & white.

Toward the end of our session the sun was setting, so I got some pretty hazy sun flare over Brittany & Phil.  I point my camera directly toward the sun for this type of image, but I use my hand to shade my lens while focusing… otherwise my autofocus goes a little crazy and can’t figure out what to focus on.

Baby’s nursery is precious in lavender & teal.  Can’t wait to meet the little lady at our July newborn photography session!

Maternity Session with Jaclyn & Thomas | Twins

The year 2015 was a record year for twin births in Pittsburgh, and here at Powder Blue Photography, we couldn’t be happier!  We love twins!

Meet Jackie and Tom, who became parents of twins last week.  These images are from their maternity session, but watch for some adorable newborn twin portraits soon–we shot their session today (!!!), and babies Michael & Madelyn are insanely cute!

Jackie and Tom wanted some outdoor shots, but it was the first week in January!  We could have encountered snowmageddon, or we could have had 75 degrees (like on Christmas Eve, remember?).  The solution was to approach the shoot with flexibility and flow.  (What else can you do when it comes to winter weather?) As it turns out, we were lucky!  It wasn’t an extremely cold day.  So we decided to do some shooting in my studio (above) and some outside, right around the corner from my studio (below).  It was chilly, so we had to work quickly when we were outside.  But it worked out great!

Jackie and Tom were more than ready to be parents, and they are SO excited to be having twins.  I offer maternity sessions as an affordable add-on to clients who book a newborn session with me.  Check out some of my favorite maternity images here.

Now, what’s on that clothesline that Jackie and Tom are holding? If you look closely, you will see two New York Mets newborn-sized onesies, one for a baby girl and one for a baby boy.  So let’s figure this out.  The Mets’ home opener is on April 8… the babies will be around three weeks old.  This could work!

Jackie and Tom are so excited about entering this new phase in their lives, and I am thrilled to be able to help capture their incredible journey.  Newborn images coming soon!

Pittsburgh Maternity Photographer | Rooftop Session | Downtown Pittsburgh

When you hear the word “rooftop,” what do you think of?  Well, romance — of course.  Think about Sleepless in Seattle, Dirty Dancing, LA Stories, ……  (For you parents out there who never get to watch grown-up movies:  Ratatouille, The Muppet Movie and Kung Fu Panda.)

So, yes, rooftops equal romance.  Case in point:  Lexie and Ryan below.  The really delightful twist is that these very romantic pictures are of parents-to-be……and very soon.  Romance, love and having a baby–throw in a rooftop setting, and it gives me goosebumps.  I have the best job in the world!

pittsburgh maternity photographer rooftop session penn garrison building downtown pittsburgh skylineThe location is a gorgeous landmark building in downtown Pittsburgh, where Lexie and Ryan live.  It was a sensational location, since it is near some of Pittsburgh’s best food and cultural venues: restaurants like Sienna Mercado and Ten Penny, and the fantastic Pittsburgh Downtown Cultural District (including the Benedum Center, the Byham Theater, Theater Square, Heinz Hall, the Reilly Theater, and the August Wilson Center).  The view was spectacular (Heinz Field, the Allegheny River and North Shore, just to name a few).

This was a Mom-to-be who really knew what she wanted.  I love that!  Her neutral clothing choices and professionally-done make-up were beautiful.

Personally, I always think the family dog adds great personality to any shot.  This is Greta, who was a sweet and patient girl and a very good sport when it came to being photographed.

Lexie and Ryan, thank you so much for the opportunity to capture this very special moment in your lives.  And for reminding all of us that romance and childbirth go together like love and marriage (and a baby carriage!).
